Participation, evidence, and review.
World Ocean League recognizes documented company participation. Points help organize the league; they are not a measure of ecological benefit or a sustainability certification.
Free membership and company participation
Individual network membership and company team registration are free. Free membership does not create a public profile, earn points, or confirm a place at an activity. Corporate services, delivery costs, and project funding are agreed separately.
What becomes public
A WOL administrator reviews the company and its authority to participate before the team appears publicly. Each completed action is reviewed separately. Approved results show the action title, date, participation points, and documented outcome totals.
Company contact information, evidence links, and review correspondence remain in the company workspace and administrator review desk. Demonstration teams appear only in the separate demo view.
Provide evidence for each action
- Cleanups: date, location, weighing records, and photographs or a delivery-partner report.
- Funding: receiving organization, confirmed amount, and receipt or written confirmation. A pledge or planning request does not earn points. Exclude WOL service fees, administrative fees, and event delivery costs from the reported conservation funding amount.
- Employee activities: attendance and total volunteer hours supported by an organizer record.
- Education: delivery records and a supportable count of people reached.
Use an evidence link accessible to the reviewer. Do not include unnecessary personal information. If evidence is incomplete, WOL requests a correction in your workspace; edit that submission and resubmit it.
Participation points
| Action | Calculation |
|---|---|
| Cleanup | 20 per participant + 8 per volunteer hour + 8 per kg collected |
| Funding | 1 per US$5 confirmed |
| Employee ocean day | 20 per participant + 8 per volunteer hour |
| Education | 10 per participant + 3 per person reached |
Totals round down to whole points. There is no bonus simply for submitting a record. Different activities are not environmentally equivalent; documented dollars, hours, waste collected, and people reached are shown separately.
These are founding-program participation rules. Any future changes should be published with their effective date before applying to new activity.
Corrections and withdrawals
If an approved result needs correction, a WOL administrator can reopen it for the company to edit and resubmit. Its points and outcome totals are excluded immediately and return only after another approval. An administrator can also withdraw a result without reopening it.
Review decisions and snapshots of the recorded metrics are retained for accountability. Company details can be corrected in the workspace and submitted for another company review.
One activity, one record
Submit a completed activity once under its primary category. Do not re-enter the same funding, volunteer time, attendance, or waste under another category, or split an event to increase points. Name the activity and location consistently. Reviewers check related submissions before approval.
Estimates stay private until approved. Rejected submissions receive no points. Official rankings use approved results only and list companies with equal points and action counts at equal rank.
Planning and funding requests
A program request starts a discussion. It does not charge a card, transfer a donation, or book an activity. Project availability, the delivery partner or funding recipient, costs, and any WOL fee must be agreed before the company commits.
Replies and review updates appear in your company workspace. You can reply in the same request thread; replying to a closed request reopens it. Check the workspace for updates, as automatic email notifications are not yet available.
